For those of you who follow sports, Kenny Manye is one of the great personalities in the history of SportsCenter. His wit is something that takes a while to grow on you, but, once it does, it is great.
Recently Kenny began doing a series called the Wider World of Sports (WWOS). One of the things that he covered was the Palio, a horse race in Siena, Italy. It is one of the most famous events in Italy’s history, dating back to the 1600’s.
The race, though very brutal when you get into all of its details, is a great look into the culture and life of the Italian people. The winning horse is revered and gets sugar cubes and extra hay, along with having its hooves painted with real gold for a prize.
